Monday Mischief: Book Mischief and a Giveaway!

Remember when I showed you how jealous Rita was about not being on the cover of my new novel, Rescue Me, Maybe:
Look up "hangdog" in the dictionary and you'll find this face
She usually never tries to take/destroy/sneak off with anything around here that isn't hers, but I think the fact that the book was delivered to our doorstep - and most stuff that comes to our doorstep is for her - made her think the book was HERS. To do with as she wished. I don't know if you can really tell in this picture, but I left it within her reach and she clawed at it:
Probably have to enlarge this to see the claw marks under "a novel"
Rita says she can't help it. She just really wants to dig into this book!

And now's your chance to dig in to it too! Next Monday, 9/16, is my official launch date for Rescue Me, Maybe (assuming all goes well with Amazon... fingers and paws crossed... Actually, the print version went up way early and is already available, but the ebooks not up yet so I'm sticking with my 9/16 launch date. Um, as long as the ebook goes up!) Anyway, to celebrate, I'm having a giveaway starting today which will end on 9/16.

The winner will receive a signed paperback copy of Rescue Me, Maybe (claw-mark free!):

But wait, there's more! You will also win a beautiful matching purple and blue, doggy-themed bookmarker, handmade by a local artisan. (My sis... but still, she's a local artisan.)
Enlarge to see the cute doggy details!

The Rules:
1. The giveaway is open to everyone. I'm happy to ship wherever.

2. Just leave a comment to enter. Make sure I know how to get a hold of you. (Was going to do Rafflecopter, but decided to make this easy-peasy.)

3. You have until Saturday, September 14th at midnight PST to leave a comment here to enter.

3. Winner will be announced Monday, 9/16 - the day the book launches. Winner will be chosen by Random.org. If I am unsuccessful at contacting the winner for their address within 48 hours, I'll move on to the next person.

If you missed it before, here's the blurb from the back cover of the book:
If you lost both your husband and your dog to cancer within weeks of each other, but you were sadder about the dog, would you tell anyone? Maybe your closest friends. Unfortunately, Jane Bailey’s closest friends are on the other side of the country. That’s where Jane plans to go now that she’s free to leave Philadelphia, the too cold, beachless, street taco-deficient city her husband dragged her to six years ago. But with no job prospects in her hometown of San Diego, Jane is roped into helping out temporarily at her uncle’s southwestern small-town B&B. En route to her new role as innkeeper and breakfast chef, she finds a stray at a rest stop. With her heart in pieces from the loss of her dog, she’s determined not to let this mutt worm its way into her affections. She’s also determined to have next-to-no interaction with the B&B’s irritating guests, and the even more annoying handyman who lives next door. Can Jane keep her sanity—and her secret that she’s not really a grieving widow—while trying to achieve her dream of getting back to the place she thinks is home?

Thanks to Snoopy’s Dog Blog, Alfie’s Blog, and My Brown Newfies for hosting Monday Mischief!

  36. Congrats on your new release! Vlad thinks that maybe since you first wrote "What the Dog Ate," you now need to write a sequel "What the Dog Clawed?" :-D We've always wondered when dogs try to touch/eat books, papers, etc. if they're just smelling where someone else touched it?

  37. My granddaughter is into rescuing dogs -and cats. Not off the street, but from shelters so they can be adopted.
I've never been a animal person, but I think she's about converted me :).

Would love to read about Jane's adventure at the B&B and with the stray.

  40. What a fabulous book written by a woman with an obviously big heart. We need more people like you in this world. When you care enough to open your heart and your home to rescue an animal, you are the real winner. I love little pets and am a huge supporter of adopting rescue animals. Thank you for all you do. Bless you.

  48. Good luck with your new book. So sadly & very suddenly we had to have our 11 year old Labrodor put to sleep last October. He was my best friend who kept all my secrets and saw me through some if the bleakest times of my life. Glad to say our 3 children all grew up with a dog in the family....a must I think, you will never forget your dog when you get older.
